Barbecue Flavors Come Together in Lake Placid
LAKE PLACID , N.Y. --- Obviously Lake Placid, N.Y. is recognized for its ties to world class sports as its played host to two Olympic Winter Games, 1932 and 1980, Ironman USA Triathlons, the ESPN Outdoor Games, TNT Goodwill Games and numerous World Cup and World Championship competitions. It's also the home of both the United States Luge Association and U.S. Bobsled and Skeleton Federation, as well as the U.S. women's hockey team. However, Lake Placid is equally recognized for its world-class restaurants and eateries.
On Monday and Tuesday, July 3-4, the Adirondack community will play host to the “ Lake Placid , NY —I Love Barbecue Festival,” a competition sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbecue Society (KCBS), the world's largest organization of barbecues and grilling enthusiasts. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Shipman Youth Center of Lake Placid, a not-for-profit community organization, which provides support to area youth, ages 10-18.
The opening day, Monday, of the ““The Lake Placid, NY – I love Barbecue Festival” (ILBBQF) will feature music, children's activity, arts and crafts, vendor exposition, a kick-off party, sponsor party and celebrity appearances. Then on Tuesday, July 4, barbecue teams from around the country will square off for $7,500.00 in prize money and the “ Lake Placid , NY —I Love Barbecue Festival” title. The two-day event is expected to attract more than 25 professional barbecue teams.
The event will take place on the grounds of the Lake Placid high school next to the Olympic Center
“The Lake Placid , NY – I Love Barbecue Festival, supporting Shipman Youth Center , has sparked both local enthusiasm and barbecue lovers interest,” remarked Tom Costello, the festival chairman. “The Kansas City Barbecue Society suggested that the Olympic Village is a natural for the event. We anticipate a huge success.”
“The Lake Placid, NY—I Love barbecue Festival” will be held on the Olympic Speedskating oval, in front of the Lake Placid High School. Admission is $5.00 and free for children under 12. Please visit www.ilbbqf.com .

The Shipman Youth Center (SYC) is not-for-profit community organization providing support to children ages 10-18. Thomas Shipman, a designated Lake Placid police officer whose life was cut short in 1999, inspired the center. For the last seven years, the SYC has provided a supervised safe and exciting environment and programs where local children can grow and develop as individuals.
