Appalachian Still and Debby Davis Headline ILBBQF Music Shows
ILBBQF Announces the 7 Lake Placid Idol Contestants
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. --- A pair of national recording artists, Debby Davis and Appalachian Still, headline a list of 10 musical bands scheduled to perform during the third annual Lake Placid , NY —I Love Barbeque Festival (ILBBQF), Friday through Sunday, July 4-6, in Lake Placid , N.Y.
Appalachian Still, formed in the spring of 2005, is an acoustic string band that mixes alternative old-time, Americana , folk, and bluegrass with flavors of jazz and country. The Northampton , Mass. , five-member band has released one CD entitled “Lost and Found,” which is already in its second printing and the band’s songs are now featured on several commercial and college radio stations throughout New England .
Described in the Los Angeles Times as “wielding an electric guitar as if it were a wand,” Davis began her blues career in 1984 where she was the lead guitarist for an all-female band, Maggie Mayall and the Cadillacs. She also performed with the Icebreakers, and Finger Taylor and the Ladyfingers Revue, before releasing her debut album in 1993. Since that time, Davies has released nine solo CDs and has received eight nominations for Blues Music Awards. In 1997; she won the award for Best Contemporary Female Blues Artist and is nominated for the same award again this year.
Local bands that will fill the three-day music slate include Sven Curth, Pat Duffy, Heritage, Hotrod, Hoodlums, Loud and Stupid, Slow Natives, Stoneman Blues Band, Super Unstoppables, Towne Meeting and Raisin Head. All performances, as well as the ILBBQF festival, will be held on the festival stage, on the Olympic speedskating oval.
The ILBBQF has also tapped into the popularity of FOX-TV hit reality television show “American Idol,” with its own version of “Lake Placid Idol” sponsored by State Farm Insurance. Seven musicians and/or groups, including Lowell Bailey, Jared Bashant, Cliff Berg, Heather Bickford, Elephant Bear, Mickey Healy and Moon Rock have been selected to perform on Saturday, July 5. Thomas Shipman, a Lake Placid police officer whose life was cut short in 1999, inspired the center, which the festival will benefit. For the past seven years, the Shipman Youth Center has provided a supervised safe and exciting environment and programs where local children can grow and develop as individuals.
